RECREATIONAL PROGRAM
Seymour Dance offers recreational classes for all levels and all age ranges. These classes focus on building technique, teamwork and learning choreography. We offer non-competitive classes in Jazz, Lyrical, Ballet, Tap, Acro, Hip Hop, Breakdancing and more! This program is geared towards students looking to dance in a safe, fun, and engaging environment. There are no pre-requisites for the classes in this program. However, if you are unsure what level or class will be the best fit, you are welcome to have your dancer attend a drop-in class for an assessment by our teaching faculty!
Performances
Our recreational dancers perform in one large-scale performance at our yearly June recital. There are also additional opportunities to perform in our community which could include but are not limited to Holiday at the Shipyards, West Van Days and Blueridge Good Neighbour Day.

ACRO
This dance form combines dance with gymnastics. Partner work, lifts, and acrobatic skills are the main focus. * Each student is required to bring 2 yoga blocks of their own to each class. Classes run from September - June.
BREAKING
Breaking, also called breaking or b-boying/b-girling, is an athletic style of street dance. Breakdancing is typically set to hip-hop, funk, and breakbeat music, although modern trends allow for much wider varieties of music along certain ranges of tempo and beat patterns.
CONTEMPORARY
A free style of dancing that is not as restricted as classical ballet; movements are expressive of feelings, emotions and abstract ideas. We work on connection, improving, floor work and more.
HIP HOP
Hip Hop is the current rage! These classes are tons of fun and great exercise. Students will get to dance to some of the latest music and learn exciting choreography. Hip Hop is similar to what you would see in music videos or with rap music. Each teacher has their own unique combination of styles.
JAZZ
This is a fast-paced class that includes instruction in turns, jumps, flexibility, and choreography. The students do a warm-up working on jazz technique, posture and coordination. Each teacher has their own unique combination of styles. However, the basic techniques are the same and can be applied to any style of Jazz.
LYRICAL
Lyrical dance is a style of dance created from the fusion of Ballet with Jazz and Contemporary dance techniques. It focuses on the expression of emotions through movement and story-telling.
SAMBA TECH
This is an introductory class to Samba and other Latin dance styles. Class runs from September-June and participates in our Year End Show. This class is strongly suggested for students in SDC Samba Groups
STAGE & BROADWAY
Broadway Bound combines acting, singing and movement. Popular Broadway and musical tunes and scenes are used. As dancers, this is a great class to take to become a “Triple Threat”. Stage is all of the above except it focuses on lip-syncing instead of singing.
STRETCH & CONDITIONING
Dancers work on increasing range of motion and flexibility. No Choreography. Classes run from September - June.
* Each student is required to bring 2 yoga blocks of their own to each class.
TAP
Tap is designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Exercises focus on building articulation of feet and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement. Students will learn a variety of tap steps, focusing on precision but also providing activities to foster creativity and expression. All tap classes perform in the June recital.
